The Forest and the Trees (2021-2022)

After years of exploring the theme of impermanence through my photography, I made a 180 degree turn to focus on trees, a subject that felt very permanent by comparison.  I was drawn in first by the notion of older trees as witnesses to history and then by fascinating scientific findings on topics such as communication and cooperation among trees.  The images in The Forest and the Trees use portraiture and metaphor to showcase both the beauty and uniqueness of individual trees and the community of the forest.
